Low Ds come in threes, and this is one of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A tuneable low D by James Dominic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coming from the recorder and playing a lot on tenor and also bass recorder, first I thought, oh, low D, that\u2019s rather easy to play, well, to be honest \u2013 it\u2019s not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But I love the sound and so, when James Dominic announced that they have made a new design for low D, I was really curious. Because they said, and I can relate to that, that some people find to play on low Ds a bit uncomfortable because it\u2019s such a large and long instrument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And it\u2019s the same, or, not really the same, but it\u2019s a bit like with tenor recorders, too. Some people find the long tenors not too easy to play. And bent heads bring the instrument closer to the body, so for some people this is more comfortable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, low D and bent head?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, yes. James Dominic, they got you covered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because their new design is this one. Low D, number two in my collection. They call it the \u201esax whistle\u201c and it has a bent head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, just to bring them both together, that\u2019s what they look like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Low Ds come in threes, that\u2019s the title of this video and before I\u2019m showing you number three, first I need to step back and show you this instrument here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is a high D telescopic flute or whistle made by Mauri in Finland and to play it you have to take the cap off. And there we go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For comparison I brought a high D whistle as well and this is the high D 3D printed telescopic whistle, flute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now. The whistle family has the high D and the low D.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the telescopic family now has a low D as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here it is!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Look at it, is is quite big. Now, this one fits in your trouser pockets. For this one, you need really, really large trouser pockets. But it\u2019s still, when it\u2019s folded up, it\u2019s still quite small.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now. Let\u2019s have a look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rainbow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Isn\u2019t it a beauty?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, it has six holes here on the front. But it also has a thumbhole on the back, just like the recorder does. So, it\u2019s mix between a whistle and a recorder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And I can put my left hand just like I normally would.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For my right hand, you can see where my ring finger goes \u2013 there is no hole here so the deepest [I mean lowest!] hole is this one here and I have to close it with my little finger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Size-wise, this one is more like an alto. I brought one to show you. But the pitch is the same as with the low D.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Da ich von der Blockfl\u00f6te her komme und viel mit Tenor und auch Bassblockfl\u00f6ten spiele, dachte ich anfangs, oh, \u201eLow D\u201c, das d\u00fcrfte einfach sein. Nun, um ehrlich zu sein \u2013 nein, ist es nicht.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aber ich liebe den Klang und als James Dominic ank\u00fcndigte, sie h\u00e4tten ein neues Design f\u00fcr die \u201eLow D\u201c entwickelt, war ich wirklich neugierig. Denn sie sagten, und ich kann das nachvollziehen, dass manche Menschen es ein wenig unbequem finden, auf der \u201eLow D\u201c zu spielen, weil das so ein gro\u00dfes und langes Instrument ist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Das ist ungef\u00e4hr so wie bei Tenorblockfl\u00f6ten. Manche Menschen finden die langen Ten\u00f6re schwierig zu spielen. Ein geknicktes Kopfst\u00fcck bringt das Instrument n\u00e4her zum K\u00f6rper und f\u00fcr manche Menschen ist das bequemer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nun. \u201eLow D\u201c und Knickkopf? Aber ja! James Dominic bietet genau das an. Das hier ist das neue Design. \u201eLow D\u201c, Nummer zwei in meiner Sammlung. James Dominic nennen es \u201eSax Whistle\u201c und es hat einen Knick im Kopfbereich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beide \u201eLow D\u201c nebeneinander sehen so aus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Und so klingt sie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nun, in der Whistle Familie gibt es eine \u201ehigh D\u201c und eine \u201elow D\u201c und nun hat die Teleskop-Fl\u00f6ten Familie auch eine \u201elow D\u201c.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hier ist sie! Schaut mal, wie gro\u00df. Diese hier [gemeint ist die \u201ehigh D\u201c] passt in die Hosentasche. F\u00fcr diese hingehen braucht man wirklich gro\u00dfe Hosentaschen. Aber wenn sie nicht ausgeklappt ist, ist sie trotzdem relativ kompakt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nun, lasst uns mal sehen. Hier ist sie! Ein Regenbogen. Ist sie nicht wundersch\u00f6n?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sie hat auf der Vorderseite sechs L\u00f6cher und sie hat auf der R\u00fcckseite ein Daumenloch, genau wie die Blockfl\u00f6te. Sie ist also eine Mischung zwischen Whistle und Blockfl\u00f6te.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ich kann meine linke Hand hier hinlegen, wie ich es gewohnt bin. Bei meiner rechten Hand seht Ihr, dass da, wo mein Ringfinger liegt, gar kein Loch ist. Das tiefste [gemeint ist das unterste] Loch muss ich mit dem kleinen Finger abdecken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Von der Gr\u00f6\u00dfe her ist die Teleskop-Fl\u00f6te eher wie eine Altblockfl\u00f6te; hier ist eine. Aber die Tonh\u00f6he ist die gleiche wie bei der \u201eLow D\u201c.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
