It’s about time that the album „Malers Hüs“ (the miller’s house) by Schall & Stille (Stephan) gets its own series of blog posts 🙂
The album was published in December 2024, so on the one hand this post comes rather late, but on the other hand I have already written quite a few fediverse posts about it – and I feel I should write a short disclaimer, too. I had the great pleasure to work with Stephan on a few tracks of the album. This wasn’t our first collaboration. The first time we worked together was in 2023 and since then we’ve been in close contact and when Stephan asked whether I would lend my voice to some of his songs for the next album, I said yes.
All proceeds from the album go to an animal sanctuary, so I have no personal financial interest in people buying the music, but I have a personal interest in sharing the music because it’s good stuff and because I think the world needs human-made music more than ever.
Malers Hüs has 8 tracks, 5 of them instrumental. I’m going to write something about each track on every Friday for the next 8 weeks, starting today. However, you might want to listen to the full album in one go, since the tracks are aligned and listening to just one at a time might give the impression of coming to a stop very suddenly.
The first track on the album is „North Wind“. Sit down and make yourselves comfortable for this instrumental. I always imagine sitting at the seashore, watching the waves and letting my thoughts come and go with the flow. But you might as well think about being in a forest, or on top of a mountain, or wherever you go when you want some peace and quiet. And please resist the urge to hit „fast forward“ after the first few seconds. Sound will emerge and part of the pleasure this song brings is to actually wait for it.
If you like the album, you can buy it directly on Stephan’s website or download it from Bandcamp.
Stay tuned 😉 for more! Next Friday I will talk about „The Mill“.
