Why Twitter?

When I talk to people who don’t know Twitter or who’re not using it, I often get reactions like „that’s just a waste of time“ or „what’s it for anyway?“. Well, while the first one might be true in a way. You can indeed get lost in your timeline and spend more minutes / hours than you originally intended to.
The good thing is that you can just use it for whatever you like and have lots of fun, get loads of information, meet some friends or whatever you want to do. That’s what I like about Twitter so much – it’s what you want it to be. You can use it as newsroom, chatroom, virtual coffeebar, and a lot more.

Today I simply want to say thank you to all the wonderful people there.
Yes, I know I could just tweet some #ff mentions, but I already said why I don’t want to do this anymore (see here: http://andijah.wordpress.com/2012/01/06/follow-friday-on-twitter/ )

I want to say thank you to the artists, the marketing specialists, the programmers, the salespeople, the parents, the musicians, the photographers, the journalists, the bloggers, the coffee lovers, the travelers, the engineers, the entrepreneurs, the HR specialists, the morning people, the night owls, the religious, the atheists, the workers, the jobless, the heroes, all the real people who make me laugh, smile, shake my head, grind my teeth, cry, shout, in short, the best timeline you could imagine.

Thank you, danke schön, merci beaucoup, villmols merci, Þakka ykkur kærlega fyrir, grazie, gracias, takk.

Lob und Komplimente

„Net gschimpft is gnug globt.“ sagt der Volksmund.

Wie geht es uns, wenn wir gelobt werden? Wenn uns jemand ein Kompliment macht? Fühlt sich das gut an? Oder werden wir doch eher verlegen und schmälern unsere Leistung lieber?

Ich wuchs in einer liebevollen Familie auf. Trotzdem hat es Jahre gedauert, bis ich ein Kompliment oder ein Lob einfach annehmen konnte, ohne entschuldigend darauf hinzuweisen, dass es doch eigentlich gar nicht sooo besonders war.

Ich meine, dass es sich lohnt, zu lernen, sich über Lob und Komplimente zu freuen. Wenn ich mich darüber freuen kann, ist das angenehm für mich. Und ich glaube auch, dass es für mein Gegenüber schöner ist, wenn ich mich nicht aus dem Kompliment wieder herauswinde, sondern es einfach annehme.

Heute sagte jemand zu mir: „Deine Präsentation war großartig. Ich war beeindruckt.“
Und ich habe mich bedankt und mich ganz ohne Hintergedanken einfach nur gefreut.

Kreativität

Ein Thema, über das ich stundenlang reden und schreiben könnte… Und ich werde auch im Laufe der nächsten Tage mehr dazu schreiben.

Kreativität hat für mich viele Facetten. Ebenso wie ich fest davon überzeugt bin, dass es keine wirklich unmusikalischen Menschen gibt, bin ich davon überzeugt, dass jeder Mensch kreativ ist. Kreativität ist mehr als einfach gute Bilder malen zu können. Ich habe jahrelang unter dem Kunstunterricht gelitten, weil ich nicht zeichnen kann. Und die Aufgaben bestanden irgendwie immer darin, etwas so naturgetreu wie möglich aufs Papier zu bringen. Genossen habe ich allerdings die wenigen Kunststunden, in denen wir mit Aquarellfarben experimentieren durften. Da konnte ich einfach Farben verlaufen lassen, und es hat Spaß gemacht und sah toll aus. Später habe ich mir sogar Farben, Pinsel und Papier gekauft, und spiele ab und zu damit herum.

Leider passiert es in sehr vielen kreativen Fächern (Kunst, Musik) schnell, dass Kinder den Eindruck gewinnen, sie seien nicht begabt (genug) und deshalb auch nicht kreativ.
Oft höre ich: „Ich bin nicht musikalisch. Ich kann nicht singen.“ Das eine hat aber mit dem anderen erst einmal wenig zu tun. Musik ist so viel mehr als Singen, und Kreativität ist soviel mehr als zeichnen zu können.

„Erste-Hilfe-Kurse müssten Pflicht sein“

In jedem Kurs, den ich halte, sei es nun die Erste Hilfe Grundausbildung, Lebensrettende Sofortmaßnahmen, Erste Hilfe am Kind, gibt es am Ende mindestens einen Teilnehmer, der sagt, der Besuch von Erste-Hilfe-Kursen müsse zur Pflicht gemacht werden, schließlich sei das alles sehr wichtig.

Stimmt. Wichtig ist Erste Hilfe allemal, nicht nur, weil die Wahrscheinlichkeit sehr hoch ist, dass man jemandem helfen muss, den man (gut) kennt.

Nur: wer oder was hält die Menschen denn davon ab, diese Pflicht einfach für sich selbst zu definieren und sich die Zeit zu nehmen?
Muss denn alles vorgeschrieben werden?

Morgen stehe ich wieder vor einer Teilnehmergruppe, lebensrettende Sofortmaßnahmen werde ich unterrichten, und ich freue mich darauf. Denn es wird wieder mindestens einen Teilnehmer geben, der am Ende sagen wird, so etwas müsse doch Pflicht sein. Und ich ~~weiß~~ hoffe, dass das auch damit zusammen hängt, dass meine Kursgestaltung den Teilnehmern Spaß macht. Selbst wenn sie vielleicht gar nicht freiwillig da waren.

Follow Friday on Twitter

To #ff or not, this is the question each Friday on Twitter. And it’s a tough one. Besides the fact that it takes some time to recommend the gems of your timeline if you want to give more information than just their name and a #ff, it seems that using the #ff too often is an invitation for spam bots to start following you and the people you mention.

I’ve experienced a significant loss of followers on those days when I actually recommend people. And others have told me that they’d rather not be mentioned because they get too much spam afterwards.

So, the decision each Friday is: do I let my actions be influenced by some stupid bots and spammers and not talk about the people whom I really appreciate, or do I just not care and give recommendations anyway?

This Friday, I will not have enough time to write something about those wonderful people in my timeline, but of course you’re all welcome to follow all of them because they’re just worth it 🙂
