This is the second post in a series of blog posts about the album „Malers Hüs“ by Schall & Stille (Stephan). The first one can be found here.
An album titled „Malers Hüs“ (the miller’s house) wouldn’t be complete without a song about „The Mill“ (written by Stephan, vocals by me).
In former times, wind mills were common in places with a fair share of wind, for example at the coast. Nowadays, wind mills are still a delightful sight, but there aren’t as many any more and while some are in great shape and some are actually in use, others are waiting to be restored. Lack of funds unfortunately is as common now as wind mills were common back in the days and so the mill in this song isn’t turning but still has a lot to say.
When I first read the lyrics, I was touched by both the simplicity and by what lies underneath.
This is also reflected in the music, the „calm and the storm“ is always there and sometimes I feel like putting the song on repeat and getting carried away by the idea of „there’s no beginning – there is no end“.
If you like the album, you can buy it directly on Stephan’s website or download it from Bandcamp.
There will be „Dark Clouds“ next week. Figuratively speaking! It’s the title of the next track 🙂
